We all arrived in Charlotte pretty much the same day and all very excited and surprisingly awake considering the long flight. On our first day we were introduced to the beautiful campus at UNCC. We were all impressed with the amazing buildings and manicured grounds. The visit to Charlotte Early Engineering College demonstrated the 21st Century learning vision in action and was a very inspiring experience for everyone. We were privileged to be able to walk through the impressive football complex, led through by the groundsman, Michael. We were even lucky enough to throw the football around on the field!
The first Saturday we were treated to a Segway tour of Uptown Charlotte, such an amazing way to see this breathtaking city. The tour guide was amazing, he informed us along the way of historical recounts of the city as well as future developments in what seems to be a continually evolving place. The evening event was a spectacular UNC Basketball game watching the 49er’s with our posters we made to support our team that won (of course!). From beginning to end we had such a cultural hit right from the singing of the national anthem to cheer leaders, the brass band and of course the game!
After a slow morning to catch up on some rest, we headed off to the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The tour guides were amazing and entertained us - a new experience doing laps of the Nascar track in a min-van! The start of the week had us visiting two Elementary Schools in Charlotte, both inspiring and interesting sites to visit. We were greeted by fantastic students and passionate and enthusiastic staff, with so many similarities and differences to take in. The end of our first week finished off with some air time at Defy Gravity.
