My name is Daniela Panetta and I’m a 3rd year student studying a Bachelor of Journalism at La Trobe University.
In early 2015 I took the plunge and applied to participate in Aim Overseas’ Fashion Events and Public Relations program which I had previously heard about but had been hesitant to apply for. This course contributed as one elective towards my degree.
It was a very rewarding experience and I was able to learn so much in such a short time. Studying abroad adds a whole new dimension and experience to your university studies. If you’re thinking of studying overseas or are looking for a new experience an Aim overseas program could be what you’re looking for!
The highlights are endless!
Firstly, from the opportunity to meet and form a bond with many new people from a range of different parts of the world, whether from Italy, Brazil, Denmark, Azerbaijan, Norway or closer to home in different parts of Australia to learning about topics I’m passionate about in such a beautiful place in the world like Firenze.
Secondly, being taught by professors who were so welcoming and passionate about what they were teaching to getting to live in such a breathtaking place where there was always something new to discover. It is hard to go past seeing all we had learned and all the hard work we put in come together in our final presentations and the event we produced.
The Fashion Events and Public Relations Program included excursions to the museums of well known companies,: Gucci and Ferragamo and the chance to visit the headquarters of Local (Florentine, leather and accessories company), My Vintage Academy and to meet their leaders. We collaborated with the company to create an event which best represented their brand and marketing needs.
The opportunity to study in free time outside of classes was great as well. I visited Roma, Milan, Cinque Terre, Pisa and spent a weekend in Paris before the program started.
Looking back on the overall experience, I really miss all the people I undertook the experience with, the places I visited, the simplicity of the lifestyle and all the unforgettable memories that were made. I liked the program a lot because it covered a range of topics beyond what the title suggests: Fashion Events and Public Relations. Topics such as branding and the branding process, interviewing, the process of writing an article to name a few were covered.
I definitely cannot forget to mention the stunning but boiling weather! I don’t think the weather was under 30 degrees for the whole month.
