AIM Overseas’ Mission and Core Values

At AIM Overseas we believe that overseas study transforms the lives of university students. In everything we do, we believe in being innovative, constantly pushing ourselves to improve and putting quality experiences above everything else.

The way we do this is by creating high quality overseas study courses taught by leading academics at exceptional universities overseas. These institutions are in destinations that ‘make sense’ for the topic being taught (and not just in ‘sexy’ destinations that ‘sell’). We are relentless in our pursuit of quality, focusing on developing and refining innovative, cutting edge courses, as well as delivering exceptional customer service and support for the students who are preparing for those courses.

Our courses are three to four weeks long, taught in English that run during the main Australian university holiday periods at excellent universities around the world. They are real academic courses, carefully designed with robust learning outcomes and assessment, with special attention paid to ensuring they are fully compliant with Australian academic standards and requirements for OS-HELP.

We value clear, transparent and consistent communication and strive to make our processes, systems, policies as straight-forward and accurate as possible. Our team is passionate, proactive and has excellent attention to detail, even when under pressure. As a result, not only is AIM Overseas Australia’s oldest and most experiences study abroad provider, it is also the most trusted.

Our courses are…

  • Three to four weeks long
  • Taught in English (except language programs!)
  • Taught by a university overseas that has an expertise in the topic being offered
  • Academically rigourous and designed to count for credit
  • Designed to be eligible for funding
  • Covered by Australia’s best-practice health and safety advice and support

Our programs are taught in relevant places - Public Health in Mexico, International Environmental Law in Maastricht, the Netherlands or English Literature at Oxford University.

They make the most of their location, frequently including lots of site visits and field trips to places that increase your learning, giving you an experience that simply could not be replicated in a classroom in Australia.

What are the advantages of doing one of our courses?

  • Our returned students tell us it was ‘a life changing experience’ and ‘the best thing’ they have ever done
  • Research shows that adding an overseas study experience is viewed very positively by employers
  • Students who participate, on average, do better academically once they return and are more likely to complete their degree
  • You’ll experience the culture and studying environment at another university – we work with exceptional institutions!
  • Make friends for life  with people from around Australia and the world
  • See the world in a thoughtfully structured, safe and highly engaging way

Here’s what some of our Australian university colleagues have to say about the AIM Overseas programs.

“La Trobe Abroad, the overseas study unit at La Trobe University have been working in a formal manner with AIM Overseas and its Founder, Rob Malicki since 2012. La Trobe Abroad signed a formal Third Party Provider Agreement in 2015 but they have been one of our preferred partners since the beginning. La Trobe University offer the opportunity for students to undertake short course programming in the Summer or Winter period with AIM Overseas. La Trobe Abroad have been very happy with AIM Overseas and particularly their work ethic. Rob and his team are very aware of all the ongoing discussions relating to Third Party Providers, and have been integral in those discussions. We have sent 100’s of students on their short courses and received positive feedback for all of them. They are particularly successful in their pre-departure program and information, preparing students well for their overseas experience.”

Kim Siemensma - Senior Coordinator, La Trobe Abroad, La Trobe University

“AIM Overseas offers programs with an excellent mix of academic content and value added activities. All of their programs are designed to count towards academic credit.

Not only will an experience with AIM Overseas enhance a resume, but also provide a valuable experience to the individual involved. Students will meet new friends, gain an international perspective, confidence, independence, and have an opportunity to travel.

The University of Canberra students who have taken part in the programs, have given very positive evaluations. From the support and services AIM Overseas provides, to the academic component, opportunities to network and meet friends, to the activities and experiences students have had, they can’t recommend the programs enough!!”

Laura Thomson – Study Abroad & Student Exchange Manager, University of Canberra

“The staff at AIM Overseas have gone out of their way to provide short-term international programs that fill the program gaps for our students, in areas like health, education, environment and leadership.

As a result, the number of Griffith students choosing to participate in an AIM Overseas program is growing steadily. At a time when student interest in short-term overseas opportunities is on the rise, AIM Overseas has led the way with well-organised program opportunities. It is a great bonus that they take care of the administration and work with us to ensure students are properly supported and gain credit for their overseas studies.”

Heidi Piper – Deputy Director Griffith International, Griffith University

“We have been working with AIM Overseas for the last few years to send law students to Europe from Western Sydney University (formally UWS).  All students have reported back having a wonderful experience and really enjoying the learning at partner universities and very well organised.  Western Sydney University has expanded its choices of destinations for our law students and AIM Overseas has provided greater quality choices.”

Professor Michael Adams – Dean of the School of Law, Western Sydney University

“We have been very impressed with the professionalism and friendliness of AIM Overseas staff and recommend their programs to our students every year. These programs have been extremely popular, with 15-20 students undertaking the short-term courses every semester. Students receive credit for the courses, as well as gaining invaluable life experiences. The program is extremely well-organised and students return from every trip saying what a wonderful, life-changing experience it was, both academically and personally.”

A/Prof Fran O’Callaghan – Undergraduate Program Director- School of Applied Psychology, Griffith University

“I cannot recommend the AIM Overseas Program highly enough. My faith in the advantages of this program for students is such that I have made it a recommended component of a core topic that my students do in the Enhanced Program for BA High Achievers.

My students have returned from their experiences enriched and excited about their study and work plans for the future, and have each enjoyed their overseas experience immensely. The students speak well of the professionalism and organisational skills of contact officers in the AIM Overseas Program, and have felt always that they are in capable hands. My students have been exposed to some of the best tuition and accommodation that any overseas program can offer, and have found that their experiences have value-added to the study that they are undertaking here in Australia. I’ve two students this year who wish to embark on a second summer school of some kind as they have enjoyed it so much. For my part, I have been impressed by the level of scholarship required of students via the assessable components of the summer schools, and feel confident that the learning environment that the students encounter is of the highest quality.

I have no hesitation in encouraging students to take advantage of the wonderful opportunities on offer through AIM Overseas, and rather wish such a program had existed when I was an undergraduate (all those centuries ago!…)”

Dr Giselle Bastin- Course Coordinator of the BA and the BA Enhanced Program for High Achievers, Flinders University

Endorsements from Overseas University Partners

“I am very pleased to endorse the mission, efficiency and professionalism of AIM Overseas.  For a number of years I have worked with AIM Overseas providing the opportunity for students from Australia to study at Oxford University’s International Summer Schools.  During that period AIM Overseas has been unfailingly effective, a pleasure to work with, and thoroughly professional in all their dealings.”

Professor Angus Hawkins, Director of Public and International Programmes, Oxford University Department for Continuing Education/ UK

“We are very pleased with our professional relationship with AIM Overseas. As our international partner in Australia for the past 6 years , AIM Overseas provides us with prescreened and qualified students that are ready to embrace an international academic and cultural experience with us in Mexico.

AIM Overseas staff and the Center for International Education at La Salle University work together to prepare participants for their international experience. We value the commitment  of  AIM Overseas to get students ready for their experience in Mexico, and we appreciate the support we receive once students are with us and the follow up provided after the program ends.”

Marguerite Pajot, Coordinator of Special Programs, Universidad La Salle/ Mexico

“Working with Aim Overseas team is great: they are extremely supportive, efficient and well prepared. The students they select and send over to Milan receive their full support before leaving and while here. Since the very beginning of our cooperation, we have developed a very attuned way of working. It was easy and natural adapting to each other methods and approach.

Besides being serious and professional, AIM Overseas people are nice and friendly. It is a pleasure to work with them! They are definitely more than colleagues: I would call them good friends.”

Margherita Pasquini, Study Abroad Recruiter, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore/ Italy

“We so far cooperated with AIM Overseas in two summer school programmes at the University of Graz, three more are already planned for the following months. This cooperation is running so well and I really enjoy working with the AIM Overseas team. They are not only friendly and helpful, but so well-organised and professional; always thinking about the little details that make their students’ stays a perfect experience. And, above all, through AIM Overseas we had the chance to get to know so many wonderful students from all over Australia, we would have never met otherwise.”

Maren Leykauf, short-term-programs coordinator, University of Graz/Austria
